Digging is a natural canine behavior. Dogs dig to find a cool spot,  to relieve boredom, to bury things, or to find an escape route

When dogs have enough exercise, they are more likely to happily lay around rather than dig. Walk: 30-60 minutes 2 times a day *

Additional Information:

Train your dog to dig in an acceptable spot like a wooden dirt/sand box that you build or fill a child’s swimming pool with sand, bury a few toys in the sand and reward  him when he digs them out.   If you catch him digging somewhere else bring him back to his box.
